Collage Sketchbook Workshop
A guided session of prompts to develop a Collage Sketchbook,
hosted by artist Simone Esterhuizen.
🗓 Sun, 20 July, 3 - 6pm 📍That Paper Joint 🎟 $85-95pp

What you’ll do
Sometimes what’s left out of a collage says just as much as what makes the cut. Any collage artist will know: what begins as a clean desk quickly becomes covered in clippings, half-finished ideas, and offcuts. Lots of offcuts. These overlooked fragments, cut and set aside, can often hold surprising creative potential when viewed from the right perspective.
In this workshop, collage artist Simone Esterhuizen, co-founder of the Melbourne Collage Assembly and a respected practitioner known for her sensitive and thoughtful approach to collage and mixed media, shares insights from her personal sketchbook practice. She transforms scraps, impressions, and 'subconscious' selections into the foundation of a dynamic and evolving Artist Book.
Through a series of guided exercises and carefully crafted prompts, you’ll develop a collage sketchbook of your own; one that reflects your unique visual language, creative habits, and emotional voice.
This class is perfect for beginners and experienced collage artists alike who want to build a consistent practice, reconnect with play and process, or simply create something beautiful from what’s already at hand.
Expect a relaxed, exploratory atmosphere with abundant materials, inspiration, and time to work at your own pace. You’ll leave with a growing collection of ideas and pages—and perhaps a fresh way of seeing your scraps.
