Collage with us

Welcome to our colourful & cosy Brunswick studio, where Max and Zoe will guide you through a thoughtfully designed collage workshop focused on creativity, experimentation, and self-expression. Over the past five years, we’ve carefully refined the experience to welcome all creative backgrounds, abilities, and levels of confidence.

As an independent artist-run space, That Paper Joint exists somewhere between a working collage studio, creative workshop, and carefully curated retail destination, built around a shared love of paper, image-making, and creative community.

Rather than asking you to copy an example artwork, we teach you the mindset, techniques, and creative approaches to develop original collage pieces using our extensive collection of second-hand, recycled, and donated materials. Along the way, we’ll even introduce you to our unique glue-free collage process, allowing you to freely remix, rearrange, and document multiple evolving artworks throughout the session.

At That Paper Joint, we believe creativity flourishes when people feel supported, relaxed, and free to experiment without pressure or perfectionism. Whether you’re a practising artist, hooby-maker, or reconnecting with creativity for the first time in years, our workshops are carefully structured to help you feel comfortable, inspired, & genuinely surprised by what you’re capable of making.

More than a standard creative class, this is an immersive studio experience, designed to help you slow down, reconnect with play, and leave feeling energised, inspired, and creatively refreshed.

At the end of the session, we’ll offer you a paper bag, giving you the chance to collect and keep any special scraps or paper leftovers if you’d like to continue collaging at home. After the session, we’ll also email you high-resolution, edited, digital copies of all your creations (perfect if you’d like to enlarge or print your artworks).

For first-time visitors, this guided workshop also doubles as a studio induction, giving you access to our Self-Guided Sessions, designed for those who wish to collage with us more regularly.

We intentionally keep our workshops small, with typically just 8 to 10 attendees per session, allowing plenty of space for individual guidance, creative exploration, and a relaxed studio atmosphere. As a result, sessions often book out ahead of time.

Private collage workshops are available on request, great for Birthdays, Hens, work groups & teams. Recommended group size of 8 to 15 guests. Larger parties available on request.

What our participants say

Your Hosts

Maximillian Malone

All our workshops (unless otherwise stated), are hosted by that paper joint’s founder, Maximillian Malone.

Max has a casual & easy-going style for sharing his expertise. With years of experience teaching his passion to others, Max has developed a unique & attentive approach, able to assist & guide your creative experience, regardless of previous skill, background, or ability.

In his company he aims to make everyone feel welcome and at ease inside the studio, and his love for the medium of collage is absolutely infectious! Above all, Max tries to instill his core belief that ‘an artist is not a special kind of person, but every person is a special kind of artist.’

Zoe Crook

During our workshops, you’ll also be in the company of that paper joint’s co-founder Zoe Crook, who brings an extra level of care and hospitality experience to all of our creative sessions.

Her empathetic nature and compassionate presence provide the foundation of our comfortable, warm, and inviting atmosphere. Rest assured in Zoe’s hands, you’ll be looked after and relaxed to enjoy every moment.

Franky Rocket

Our most popular team member is our hairy front-of-house pup.
She’s a very good girl and is adjusting well to her ‘shop dog’ responsibilities.
She looks forward to meeting you.
